August in Barcelona – Events Calendar
Are you thinking about spending August in Barcelona? We say, yes, come to Barca! You won’t lack the opportunities to cool off by the beaches and swimming pools, nor will you lack the hot summer parties and live concerts. August is the month when the locals leave the city for their summer holidays, but there are still many things to do and see. Apart from events that take place whole summer and that we already wrote about, such as The Dinner With the Stars (Sopar amb estrelles) at the Fabra Observatory on Tibidabo hill, the music festival Piknic Electronik, and Musica als Parcs, free open air jazz and classical concerts in the parks of Barcelona, here is what we recommend in August.
We don’t even need to write an introduction for Beyonce. On the 3rd of August, at the stadium Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the diva will take the stage. Get in formation!
The biggest gay and lesbian festival in Europe, Circuit, takes place from 2th to 14th of August. The event, which started in 2007, attracts tens of thousands people each year.
Festa Major de Gracia
You cannot leave Barcelona without attending a big neighbourhood party, called Festa Major. Each neighbourhood makes its own party at a different time. From 15th to 21th of August, the biggest one is happening, and it is in Gracia, one of Barcelona’s most authentic districts. Apart from live music performances, workshops and different activities, the streets and plazas of Gracia are decorated by its residents, so you should definitely have a stroll through this district.
Festa Major de Sants
From 22nd to 30th of August, the party continues. This time the Sants neighbourhood makes a celebration. A little bit more modest than the one happening in Gracia, this event also features live music, street food, decorations, and different activities.
